Leo Shrader

SHRADER, Leo Robert, 74, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at home.

He was born March 5, 1940, a son to the late Minter and Rose Shrader.

He was the Assistant Fire Chief for the Wheeling Fire Department from 1990 to 1995, and served for 29 years on the department. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, The International Association of Fire Chiefs, and worked for many years as an electrician for the Wheeling Civic Center. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Minter and Ray, and three sisters, Clara, Frances, and Bertha.

He is survived by his best friend and companion, Ruth “Boots” Hunley; four children, Sylvia Thomas, Angela Hohman, David Hunley, and Scott Hunley; five grandchildren, Brandon, Shaun, Allison, Jed, and Marissa; and best friend and driver, Roger Thorngate.

Friends will be received for a memorial gathering on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling with Rev. Glen Baker Jr. officiating.
