WINLAND, Lester B., 85, of Moundsville, WV, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at home.
He was born April 5, 1928, in Belton, WV, the son of the late Randall A. and Grace Francis Tuttle Winland.
He was a U.S. Navy, Army, and Marine Veteran, having served in WWII and the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart; a retired coal miner and foreman from Consol Coal Ireland Mine; was a Christian by faith; a life member of VFW Post 437, Mounds-ville, and a member of Earl Francis Post 3 American Legion, Moundsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a son, Charles Bruce Winland; and two brothers, Jason Leroy and Melvin Homer Winland.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. Winland; a son, Terry A. (Vicki) Winland of Moundsville; a daughter, Melody R. (Chris) Vucelick of Moundsville; five granddaughters, Carmen McMurdy, and Erin, Devon, and Megan Vucelick, and Chelsea Winland; four grandsons, Christopher “Lance” Vucelick, and Brandon, Darrick and Logan Winland; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Koloski Winland of Ripley, WV.
Family will receive friends Sunday from noon-3 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Greg Blair officiating.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville where the Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Services.
