Dorothy Wakim

WAKIM, Dorothy, passed on to a better place on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the age of 81.

Dorothy was a loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and a friend. Her heart was filled with grace, humility, and kindness surpassed by no one. She was also active in her community as a member of the Women’s Club of Wheeling and St. Michael’s Catholic Parish.

Dorothy was born in Wheeling on February 2, 1933, and made a life for herself and her family there. She was a retired employee of Wesbanco Bank and owner of Wakim’s Club in Elm Grove.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wakim; infant twins, Joseph and Mary Wakim; parents, Nicholas and Antonina Maltese; and two brothers, John and Francis Maltese.

She is survived by five children, Joseph (Amanda) Wakim, Jr. of Wheeling, Fred (Sue) Wakim of St. Clairsville, Thomas (Kim) Wakim, Phil (Linda) Wakim and Nina Wakim of Bridgeville, PA. Additionally, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, Joseph Wakim III, Michael Wakim and his fiancee Katy Gallaher, Emily Wakim, Anthony Wakim, Monica Wakim, Paul Wakim, Matthew Wakim, Joseph Franc, Christopher Franc, and Benjamin Wakim.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Kathleen (Thomas) Hoffman of Wheeling; Kathleen’s children, son Thomas, and daughter Tiffany to whom Dorothy was Godmother. She is also survived by her brother, Donald (Nancy) Maltese of Canton; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dorothy always said she was rich with the love of her “people,” her family. She dedicated her life to them and she was their biggest supporter in every endeavor. Her greatest moments of joy were those shared with each and every one of them. They will hold her in their hearts and honor her legacy of love forever.

Friends will be received on Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street from 5-8 p.m.

Liturgy of the word will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremiah McSweeney officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.

WAKIM, Dorothy (Maltese), 81, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, in Wheeling Hospital.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. Final arrangements are pending.
