James Hadjis

HADJIS, Dr. James Alex, 84, of Wheeling, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 13, 1929, in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Alex and Hariclia Hadjis.

Jim served as past president of St. John the Divine Church Council, the Jaycees, Wheeling District Dental Society, and Short Circuit. He was co-founder of the Living Memorial Endowment Trust of St. John the Divine Church, founder of the Retired Dental Lunch Group, and the Retired Jaycees Lunch Group. He was a member of the Church Board of Trustees, Wheeling Rotary, AHEPA, 33rd Degree Masons, Jesters, Elks Lodge #28, Roundtable Investment Group, and the University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s Circle. Jim was also a member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. Jim is also a U.S. Army veteran that served in the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Bacteriology and a Doctor of Dental Surgery. After practicing for 40 years, Jim retired from dentistry.

He was a devoted husband and father. Fond memories will be eternal.

Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a brother, John Hadjis, and a sister, Elizabeth Hadjis Kademenos.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pauline Maskas Hadjis; a son, Alex Hadjis and his wife, Donna, of Alexandria, VA; a daughter, Tonya Hadjis and her husband, Pavel Kamaev, of Lexington, MA; three grandchildren, Ashley and Caitlin Hadjis and Peter James Kamaev; a sister, Grace Kamis of Wheeling; a sister-in-law, Norma Hadjis; brothers-in- law, Gus Kademenos and George Maskas and his wife, Aspasia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Friends will be received Friday, April 11, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232-2732). Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. with an AHEPA service following immediately.

Funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline St., Wheeling, WV 26003 with Father Mojmir officiating.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery where Mounds-ville veterans honor guard will conduct military graveside services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline St., Wheeling, WV 26003.
