LONG, Mont Edward “Ed,” 90, of Paden City, WV, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born January 1, 1924 at Gamble Run and was the son of Jacob Montreville Long and Amanda Francis Cordery Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven sisters: Leota Long, Ruth Long, Virginia Long Malone, Eloise Long Blazy, Violet Long Kimble, Ethel Long Koerber and Bernadine Long Stull.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Monzell Rockwell Long; a son, Kenneth Edward Long (Michele) of Vienna, WV; a daughter, Cathy Long Rich (Alan) of Beckley, WV; three granddaughters: Amanda Long Dorr (Carl) of Manassas, VA, Anna Danielle Long of Wilmington, NC, and Diana Rich Betkijian (Greg) of Beckley, WV; one grandson, Samuel Alan Rich of Alexandria, VA; two brothers, his twin, James Bradford Long and William Long (Dorothy), both of Paden City, WV; four great-grandchildren: Julian Michael and Jamison Patrick Dorr, Allison Grace and Ella Faith Betkijian; and several nieces and nephews. He loved his family.
Ed attended Paden City schools. He served his country for four years as a member of the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the 851st Squadron, 490th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force in Europe. He was a building contractor by trade. He owned and operated two businesses, Long Brothers Construction and Long Brothers Gas Company along with his wife, Monzell, and brother, Brad.
Ed was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Paden City, WV, where he served as a deacon for several years. He was a devoted student of the Bible. He loved discussing the Bible and his goal was leading others to Christ. He also enjoyed singing praises to God.
He loved the community of Paden City where he worked with others on many projects over the years. He enjoyed attending Paden City High School sporting events. His love for the Wildcats was only rivaled by his pride in the West Virginia University Mountaineers. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture with his brother, Brad, and loved giving these items as gifts to others.
Friends may call today, April 4, 2014 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City, WV. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Paden City Church of Christ with Brian Price officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Samuel Rich, Alan Rich, Carl Dorr III, Greg Betkijian, Courtney Witschey and Pat Malone.

Interment to follow in Paden Memorial Gardens.
The Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.
