RODGERS, Robert D. “Popeye,” 80, of Wheeling died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born December 22, 1933 in Waynesburg, PA, a son of the late William and Odna Riggs Rodgers.
Robert was a carpenter with Carpenters Local #3 and a member of St. Joseph Cathedral.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, William Rodgers, Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy “Jean” Gornick Rodgers, six children; Cindy Wurtzbacher and her husband, Joe, of Wheeling, Diane Rodgers (Tom Dawson) of Wheeling, Mary Chafin of FL, Robert Rodgers, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Mechanicsville, VA, Randy Rodgers and his wife, Terri, of Centerville, OH, Dwaine Rodgers and his wife, Rhea, of Wheeling, a sister, Madeline Richards of St. Clairsville, OH, and 10 grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where a vigil service will be conducted at 6 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10, at noon at St. Joseph Cathedral with Msgr. Kevin Quirk as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Parkview Memorial Gardens, Wheeling.
