NEIL, Ruth Long, 88, of St. Clairsville, OH, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Liza’s Place, Wheeling.
She was born September 5, 1925 in Newport, VT, the daughter of the late John and Alberta Stirk Long.
Mrs. Neil was a retired librarian for the St. Clairsville Library, a longtime economic teacher and was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Wheeling, where she worked hard and was a member of the of the Methodist Women Club. Mrs. Neil was the love of her family’s life. She loved making quilts, rugs and enjoyed refinishing furniture. She also was the genealogist of the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt “Barney” Barnard Neil, in 1999 and two brothers, John and James Long.
Surviving are four sons, Reverend Bill Neil and his wife, Faith, of Lee, MA, Mark Neil and his wife, Barbara, of Midland, MI, Charles Neil of Akron, OH and John Neil and his wife, Robin, of Eagleville, PA; a brother, Harlan Long, of Tallahasee, FL; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Pittsford, VT.
