WASSUM, Thomas Roland, 74, of Moundsville died Monday, April 14, 2014, at his home.
Thomas was born June 28, 1939 in Cameron, WV, a son of the late Emanuel and Freda Goddard Wassum.
He was a Baptist by faith, and a graduate of Cameron High School. He was an electrician’s mate when he was in the U.S. Navy, worked at Cameron Tool as a blacksmith, worked at Garvin’s Dairy, a guard at the Moundsville Penitentiary and retired from PPG after many years of service.
Thomas was an avid reader of the Holy Bible, westerns and mysteries and loved to hunt, fish and garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John and Emanuel “Mannie” Wassum; sisters, Levon Morris, Ellen Mitchell and Mary Minor.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marsha (Jobes) Wassum of Moundsville; children, Patricia Lynn of Wheeling and Thomas E. Wassum of Bellaire, OH; three grandchildren, Deanna, Kyle and Matthew Roush; three great-granddaughters, Sierra Burge, Camdyn and Lyla Roush whom he loved dearly; brother, Paul Wassum; nephews, Kevin Morris and Tom Morris Jr. and nieces, Karen Strope, Carla Wells, Colleen West, Linda Gray, Nina Hannan, Teresa Clinton of Oregon; and several other family members.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Mounds-ville, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 18 with the Rev. Thomas Steele officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Moundsville.
