Billy Scritchfield Sr., 80, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by those he loved.

He was born March 19, 1934, in Mannington, WV, to William A. and Bertha (Wright) Scritchfield.

He was raised in Mannington by his loving family who were a hard working, honest coalmining family. He attended Mannington High School, graduating in the Class of 1952.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, later switching to the United States Air Force, serving a total of 22 years. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as tours of service in MA, NH, CA, AK, France, Germany and Thailand.

During that time he met and married Arline B. (DeVoss) Scritchfield of Malden, MA who died in 1988. They had three sons, Billy Jr. of Dover, NH, Robert of Gorham, ME, and Lee of Pahrump, NV.

After retiring from the United States Air Force, he worked for Moore Business Forms in Dover, NH. His job with Moore was Inventory and Production Control. He retired from Moore in 1995 after 20 years of service.

His favorite activity was spending time with his life partner Barbara Wheatcraft who he loved and cherished. They were together for 22 years.

In addition to his three sons, Billy is survived by Billy Jr.’s life partner, Adele Stewart; Barbara’s children, Shawn and Carol Minotti and Thomas and Jennifer Guerette; sisters Doris Ann Hall of WV and Mary Raimondi of NY; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Alythia, Marissa, Lee, Damian, Davon, Lainey, Camden, Olivia and Ryan; and two great-grandchildren Kaleb and Rylee.

Billy was pre-deceased by his father, William A. Scritchfield; his mother, Bertha (Wright) Scritchfield; his stepmother, Mabel (Hunter) Scritchfield; two sisters, Irene Postlewhaite and Jesse Meyer; and two brothers, Jack Blankenship and Sam Blankenship.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Catherine Church, 875 Woodbury Avenue, Portsmouth. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. No visiting hours.
