Lois Howard Stobbs, 78, of Wheeling passed away peacefully Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Liza’s Place.
She was born May 24, 1935, the daughter of Richard and Irene Yuncke.
She maintained her wit and humor through her entire ordeal.
Lois was an active member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church, where she originated a group of knitters called Stitches of Caring which, over the years, has donated literally hundreds of hand knitted articles to shut-ins, the poor and others locally and as far away as South America.
She was an elite tennis player having coached at Washington and Jefferson College as well as winning many tournaments in the tri-state area. She was also an avid bridge player and golfer.
Through all her activities she accumulated many, many friends. All who knew her considered her a close friend.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard Howard and a daughter, Nancy.
Lois loved her family very much. She is survived by her loving husband, Hugh Stobbs; a daughter, Susan Guinn (Jeff); two sons, Richard Howard (Patti) and David Howard (Janet Alexander); six grandchildren, Nick and Torrie Howard, Luke and Katy Howard, and Eric and Lois Guinn; two great- grandchildren, Conner and June Howard; three step- daughters, Cathy DeFruscio (Jay), Susan Brossman (Phil), and Tracy Capuder (John); six step-grandchildren, Katie Stumpp, Hugh Stumpp, Anne DeFruscio, Lucy DeFruscio, Betsy Brossman, and Ali Capuder; a sister, Shirley Fink; and many nieces and nephews.
Also the pets that she loved so much and gave her great comfort, Callie, Thelma and Louise.
The family is very grateful for the extraordinary support and care Lois received from the staff at Valley Hospice and Liza’s Place.
Friends will be received Friday, May 23, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311).
A service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Elm Grove United Methodist Church, 125 Kruger St., Wheeling, with Rev. Bryan D. Carpenter officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
