ADELAIDE LUCHETTI

Adelaide Vieweg Thieroff Luchetti, 83, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014, after cancer surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

She was born in Wheeling, WV on June 12, 1931, daughter of the late Adelaide Vieweg Thieroff and George Edward Thieroff of Dimmeydale. She graduated from Triadelphia High School Class of 1949, where she was a class officer and met her husband of 61 years, Robert (Bob) Reece Luchetti, Sr.

While earning a business degree from West Virginia University, she served as President of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the Association of Women Students.

Adelaide and Bob married in 1953 and settled in Wheeling after Bob’s two-year stint in the service. They later built a home on Pleasant Cove Farm in Triadelphia where they raised their three children. She was a devoted mother and a vital member of the large, loving Thieroff and Luchetti families.

Active until her passing, Adelaide worked side-by-side with her husband running Luchetti Construction Company in Elm Grove until 1985, as well as the family farm. She was still helping bale hay and care for livestock prior to her surgery. Adelaide was known for her unlimited energy and caring, which she expressed best with her home cooking. She was renowned for her country picnics, potluck dishes, and especially her cookies, pies, cakes, sweet rolls and desserts. When Adelaide worked her magic in the kitchen, she served up “food for the soul.”

A lifelong Episcopalian, Adelaide and Bob were founding members and active in the life of Lawrencefield Chapel. She coordinated the church altar flowers for decades and baked for Meals on Wheels.

She was predeceased by her younger sister, Andrea Irene Thieroff, who passed away in 1953 at age five.

In addition to her husband, Adelaide is survived by her children, Robert R., Jr. (Tery) of Wheeling; Adelaide “Addie” L. (Bob) Olander of Rocky River, OH; and Dale C. Luchetti of Avon Lake, OH; her siblings, Ruth Foose; Sue (Robert) Mendenhall; Sally Holmes; George V. Thieroff, Sr. (Darlene); all of Wheeling; her beloved grandchildren, Robert and Andrew Luchetti; Robby and Adelaide “Heidi” Olander; and Tyler, Connor and Logan DeLong. She was “Lolly” to 12 nieces and nephews and 23 great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved her dearly.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311.) Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Alvin Schafer on Friday, June 20, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Lawrencefield Chapel, Table Rock Lane, Wheeling.
