Former Wheeling barber and businessman, Alio M. Scenna, 86, of Wheeling passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA.
Mr. Scenna was born on March 1, 1928, in Corfino, Italy, the son of the late, Francesco and Angela Navarra Scenna.
Alio owned and operated Al Scenna Barbering and Styles for 60 years. He was the first barber in the Wheeling area to incorporate and instruct the Roffler Hairstyling technique. In the late 1960s he was president of Wheeling Local Barber and Stylist Union.
He was also a member of St. Vincent’s de Paul Catholic Church, U.S. Navy veteran, and a former member of the Italian American Club, Wheeling, WV. Over the years Al also liked gardening and making wine, which he enjoyed sharing with his many friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Del Strauss.
Mr. Scenna is survived by his wife, Gina Scenna; two sons, Marco Scenna of New York, Philip Scenna of Wheeling, WV; brother, Frank Scenna and his wife, Sally, of Wheeling, WV; and two sisters, Amy Petrini of Wheeling, WV and Minnie High and her husband Roger, of St. Clairsville, OH.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 25, 2014, from 4-8 p.m., at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311) where services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Naegele officiating.
Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
