Frank S. Widmar, 72, of Avella, formerly of Wheeling, WV, died at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, in UPMC, Pittsburgh.
He was born on July 23, 1941 in Triadelphia, WV, son of the late Simon and Clara L. Nelson Widmar.
Mr. Widmar was a 1959 graduate of Triadelphia High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He had worked in the construction industry and had also been employed by Dieckmann’s Wholesale Florist of Wheeling, WV.
Mr. Widmar had lived in Avella for the past 22 years and worked with his wife, Jackie, at their business, Avella Hometown Florist.
He was a member of American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 of Avella and Moose Lodge 1564 of Wellsburg, WV, and the Avella Sportsmen’s Club.
Mr. Widmar was Lutheran. He loved watching all sports, especially NASCAR racing.
On November 7, 1991 he married Jacqueline S. Diamond, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Texanna; a brother, Robert “Bud” Widmar and his wife, Lori, of Kentucky; and a sister, Andrea “Andy” Jones and her husband, Rea, of Iowa.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents, is a daughter, Lisa.
A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, located at 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 of Avella.
