Joyce T. Wilde Rownd Welty, 84, of Wheeling, WV, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at her home.

She was born October 31, 1929 in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Sydney W. and Florence Payne Wilde.

Mrs. Welty was a graduate of Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ. She attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA, and was a member of Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wheeling.

She was an avid bridge player; past member of the Wheeling Junior League and a member of The King’s Daughters, Wheeling, WV. She loved her animals, especially her own pets.

She was a person of faith and enjoyed her Bible studies, and loved her family who thought of her as a loving matriarch. One of her special loves in life was to hug people.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Daniel T. Rownd, Jr. in 1990 and John P. Welty in 2012; and a brother, Glenn H. Wilde.

Surviving are three children, D. Thompson Rownd, III and his wife, Denise of Wheeling, WV, Deborah R. Bogden and her husband, Ken of Huron, OH and James H. Rownd and his wife, Paula of Shaker Heights, OH; her step-children, Beth Welty Henry and her husband, John of Charleston, WV, Ellen Welty Gano and her husband, David of Arlington, VA and John P. Welty and his wife, Gail of Wheeling, WV; a sister-in-law, Diane Wilde; six grandchildren, Elizabeth H. Dennings, and her husband, Andy, Carrie R. Schane and her husband, Doug, Colby T. Rownd Sr., Michael K. E. Bogden, Scott A. Rownd and Kathryn R. Rownd; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church, 905 National Road, Wheeling with the Reverend Charles D. LaPlaca officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
