JoAnn Nightengale Knicely, 82, of Valley Grove passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2014, at home, surrounded by her family.

JoAnn was born February 18, 1932, in Wheeling, WV, to the late Russell and Regina Kusinski Nightengale.

She grew up in Elm Grove and graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1950. JoAnn graduated from the nursing school at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in 1972. She worked as a school nurse at Warwood Elementary, and as an office nurse for Dr. Jellen’s Family Practice and at the Oakwood Clinic for Dr. Wack until her retirement in 1997.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Gerald Knicely, and their five children: Cheryl Brown of Ann Arbor, MI, Mark Brown of Lake Mills, WI, Brandon Knicely of Austin, TX, Lori Means of Vashon, WA, and Kellie White of Severna Park, MD. She is also survived by her only brother, Russell Nightengale of Mentor, Ohio, and his wife, Marjorie.

She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

JoAnn was a member of the Baha’i Faith for over 50 years. She was an avid animal lover and was especially fond of dogs. She enjoyed watching college football (Go Blue!), crocheting afghans for her family, and doing crossword puzzles. Her warm, vibrant smile and kind, loving spirit will be greatly missed by all.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling.

Graveside service and internment will be held Tuesday at noon at Parkview Memorial Park, Wheeling.
