MITCHELL YOUNG

Mitchell “Meech” Young’s life was cut tragically short after a traffic accident on Monday, July 25, 2016.  He was 16

He was born on June 12, 2000, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH, the youngest of two boys to Craig and Jane (Crow) Young.

He was set to start his sophomore year at Big Walnut High School, where he was a standout athlete and honor roll student. Mitchell was a third baseman and pitcher for the Eagle baseball team and played defensive end and split end for the football team. He also played six years on the Big Walnut baseball travel team, where lifelong bonds were established between both players and parents.

This summer, Mitchell dedicated himself to the weight room to better prepare him for the upcoming football season.  He had a couple of cousins who played college football who he looked up to and used as motivation.

Like most 16-year-old boys, Mitchell was a gamer.  While Madden was his game of choice, he and his friends would play nearly any sports game on X-Box.

Mitchell looked forward to extended family vacations to Hilton Head Island.  The Young family would meet up with aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents, and they’d spend time on the beach and go fishing.

Mitchell’s friendship will be missed by so many at BWHS.  He was so very well liked and had a good core group of friends.

His family will miss his “smile” and his quiet confidence.

He will be missed by his parents, Craig and Jane of Sunbury; his older brother, Jacob; Nana Carolyn Young of Moundsville, WV; grandparents, Glenn and Patti Crow of Cameron, WV; aunts and uncles, Lisa and Randy Chambers of Moundsville, WV, Dave Crow of Sunbury, and Bill and Tammy Crow of St. Mary’s, Georgia; several cousins; his girlfriend, Hunter; his lab, Lucy; and too many friends to name.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Young.

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Big Walnut High School Football Stadium. A memorial gathering will follow immediately at the Genoa Baptist Church.  Please wear your Big Walnut Athletic gear proudly.

The celebration of his life will continue on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Moundsville, WV with a dinner to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mitchell’s name to Lifeline of Ohio, Attn: Contributions, 770 Kinnear Road, Suite 200, Columbus, OH, 43212 or Sidney’s Soldiers, 865 Carters Corners, Sunbury, OH, 43074.

Mitchell’s time on earth was too short, but his legacy will live on in the numerous individuals he’ll have helped through organ donations.  In all, 50-100 people will be positively affected by his responsible and well thought out decision.

Craig and Jane would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Sunbury community for their love and support during this time.

The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to assist the Young family at this difficult time.  Special memories and condolences can be expressed at snyderunferalhomes.com. #FlyHighMCY
