JAMES EBBERT
James “Jim” F. Ebbert, Sr., 86, of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, August 27, 2016, peacefully while surrounded by family in Dayton, OH.
He was born April 1, 1930, in St. Clairsville, OH, a son of the late Charles W. and Mary (Griffith) Ebbert. Jim was a parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Church in Wheeling, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12195. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime Wheeling-area realtor and an avid gardener. He cherished time with his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Bauer Ebbert; three brothers, Charles “Bud” Ebbert, John R. “Ray” Ebbert and Jerome Ebbert; and one sister, Teresa Ebbert.
He is survived by three children, Virginia Ebbert of Silver Spring, MD, Bridget (Dan Jordan) Ebbert of Dayton, OH, and James (Mary Susan) Ebbert of Morgantown, WV; three grandchildren, Ethan and Rowan Ebbert and Claire Jordan; two sisters, Alice Ebbert of St. Clairsville and Mary Jane “Janie” (Philips) Weidman of Park Forest, IL; two brothers, Thomas (Dorothy) Ebbert of Allison Park, PA, and Ben (Marcie) Ebbert of Belmont, OH; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ebbert of Crystal River, FL, and Dorothy Ebbert of St. Clairsville; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday, September 2, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 640 Old Fairmont Pike, Wheeling, with Rev. Gary Naegele and Rev. Douglas Ondeck as celebrants. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
