Jerry Norris Dowd Jr. entered into the presence of our loving God on July 5, 2017.

He was born June 10, 1985 and resided in Wheeling, West Virginia. Jerry was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

From 2005 to the present, Jerry was an exemplary, dedicated employee of Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia, where he served as assistant banquet manager. He was well-loved and respected by its staff and executives. Jerry modeled an excellent work ethic and was admired for his unflagging dedication to his job.

Jerry was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Triadelphia, West Virginia. He was always surrounded by the love of his family.

As a young child, Jerry had several pets. When one of the pets would expire, he would call his dad and ask him to travel from Wheeling to Columbus to attend the funeral service for the beloved creature. Jerry would make the casket, his grandmother would sing the hymn and his father would be the grave digger! As always, Jerry’s mother bore the role of comforter. The ceremony would conclude with the family singing a song and saying a prayer.

Jerry loved all animals. He collected salt water fish and had a special pet dog, Kovu. His other interests included spending time with cherished family and friends, listening to the music of Motown, and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, Jerry Norris Dowd Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Jarren Norris Dowd, who loved his daddy beyond words; and his beloved, Danielle Newland; mother, Betty Merritt (Donald), stepmother, Donna Dowd; stepbrother, Charles Wallace (Becky); stepsisters, Lisa and Tracy Jenkins, Robin Nash, Carmen Wallace; and special “ride or die” friend, Terrence Copney, as well as aunts, uncles and a host of extended family and friends.

As we remember Jerry with love, sing a song. Say a prayer. Let us reflect and rejoice over the loving days God blessed us to share with him.

A memorial service will be held at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center, Wilson Lodge Glessner Auditorium, 465 Lodge Drive, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Visitation hours and service will be held July 14, 2017. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. The service will commence at 1 p.m.
