Samuel “Sam” Murphy, 79, of Sardis, OH, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, in Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV.
He was born May 24, 1938, in Louisvile, OH, the son of the late Clyde Murphy and Blanche Bowen Murphy Lallathin.
He was a US Marine veteran; a retired River Pilot with the Ohio River Company, having worked for 35 years; a member of American Legion Post #760, Hannibal; and Marine Corp. League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louis Thompson Murphy; and two brothers, Clarence and Donald Murphy.
Survivors include a sister, Judy (Charlie) Rose of Moundsville, WV; three brothers, Dale (Debra) Murphy, Steve (Mary) Lallathin, and Tom (Loretta) Lallathin all of Sardis; his best friend and brother-in-law, Sonny (Ruth Ann) Jackson of Sardis; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Tom) Boston of New Matamoras, OH, and Janet Isaly of Sardis; brother-in-law, Ron (Phyllis) Jackson of Sardis; his fiance Kathy Williamson of New Martinsville and her daughters, Judy Baxter and Karen Ross; three step-daughters, Jackie Lee Kaohi of Hawaii, Charlene Coina of San Antonia, TX, and Pam Horn of Sardis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special cousin, Bill Murphy.
Family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 3rd St., New Martinsville where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor James NG officiating and American Legion Post #760 conducting military services.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
