Agnes Snyder, of Shadyside, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, one week after her 100th birthday.
Agnes was born January 19, 1918 in Webb, Ohio to Sylvester and Theresa Valentovic Slezak, who predecease her.
In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin “Bud” Snyder on December 4, 1965, brothers, Steve and Sylvester Slezak and sisters, Mary Krupa, Julia Kipp and Katherine Sabatina.
Surviving are her brother, Michael Slezak of San Antonio, Texas and sister, Theresa Manley of Shadyside, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
She was a floral designer for Strussion Florists for many years.
She attended grade school in a one room school and was a bright student. She was proud of winning the Belmont County Spelling Contest at the age of 12, for which she was awarded a $2.50 gold piece.
Due to the “Great Depression” it was necessary for Agnes to quit her schooling at the age of 16.
Agnes would accept nothing less than perfection in any of her endeavors. She was a talented seamstress and baker. She crafted beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments. Her baked goods were happily devoured by family and friends. At the age of 99 she still managed her own finances. She was a caring sister, aunt, daughter, and friend.
Agnes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, Ohio on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic Church Shadyside with Samuel R. Saprano as celebrant. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Bellaire, Ohio.
