DANIEL HOLMES

Daniel Holmes, age 66, of Moundsville, WV died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his daughter’s home.

He was born September 12, 1951 in Glen Dale, WV.

He was a retired employee from AEP/Kammer Plant; a retired employee of UMWA Consol Shoemaker Coal Mine; and owner/operator of 3-D Excavating.

As the oldest of five siblings, Danny grew up as the father figure and remained the common thread that held the family together. He was hard-working and appreciated nature and the outdoors. He had a passion for operating heavy equipment and driving a nice truck. Danny was gifted with the talent of playing many musical instruments. He was an enthusiast for bluegrass and country music.

Danny was outgoing, fun-loving and never seen without a smile. He always enjoyed a good time with friends and family. Danny loved good food and sharing a cold beer.

He was deeply loved and idolized by his nephews and nieces. Danny dearly loved and was so very proud of his daughter Danielle. Danny spent many weekends with Danielle and her family at her home, as well as vacations and camping trips. Danny’s grandsons Eli and Ian were the joy of his life and the sparkle in his eye. He was the most loving, admirable Pappy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Virginia Garrison; a brother, Shawn Holmes; a sister, Linda Elson; and his grandparents, Robert “Glenn” and Ruth Allen.

Survivors include a daughter, Danielle (Dan) Lilley of Proctor; two brothers, Donnie Holmes, and Ward (Lori) Garrison, all of Moundsville; a sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Lilley of Moundsville; his long-time companion, Shelly Otto of Bellaire, OH; former spouse, dear friend, and Danielle’s mother, Mary “Debbie” Holmes of Moundsville; two grandsons, Eli and Ian Lilley; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Chaplin Susan Metcalf officiating.

Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
