James “Jay” Jason Powelson, 44, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ.

He was born October 22, 1973, in Urbana, IL, son of Patricia Jo McCrady Heath and James Alvin Powelson.

Jay was a graduate of Glendale High School, Phoenix, AZ.

He was a veteran for the U.S. Army. He was a correction officer III and case worker for over 19 years at Arizona State Penal Institution.

Jay loved many things like playing his guitar and listening to his music, collecting black panthers, playing video games, and watching sports like hockey and football, and collected WVU items and memorabilia.

After two cruises to Alaska, he fell in love with the state and would have loved to move there.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Joann Hannan and maternal grandfather, Robert Hannan.

He is survived by his mother Patricia Jo Heath of Wheeling, WV.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 304-242-2311 with Rev. Douglas Shoaff officiating.
