Jessie Edgington Parks Whitaker McClure, 97, of Wheeling, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
She was born July 3, 1920, in Wheeling, the daughter of the late George Parks Whitaker and Marie Stifel Whitaker.
Jessie was a graduate of Triadelphia High School and Pine Manor Junior College. She was a member of Lawrencefield Parish Church in Wheeling.
Throughout her lifetime, Jessie was active in many community and church activities. She was an active member of Lawrencefield Parish Church. She was also active in the Kings’ Daughters, the Poplar Twig (O.V.G.H. Auxiliary), the Junior League of Wheeling, and the Garden Club of Wheeling. Girl Scouting was a special interest of Jessie’s. She led local Troop 10 for many years and later was a Wheeling Area Girl Scout board member. She also was formerly a board member of The Children’s Home of Wheeling, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wheeling, and Altenheim Home for the Aged, and as well volunteered at The Russell Nesbitt School and the Oglebay Mansion Museum, where she was a docent.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Judge James Granville McClure; her granddaughter, Margaret Lynn Lewis Mackay; and three brothers, 2nd Lieutenant John Oesterling Whitaker 8th A.A.F., George Parks Whitaker, Jr., and Louis Stifel Whitaker.
Surviving are her daughter, Louise Reppetto McClure Mackay (James L.) of Atlanta, GA; son, James Thomas McClure (Paula Emmerth) of Triadelphia, WV; sister, Harriet Whitaker Kinder of St. Clairsville, OH; four grandchildren, James McClure Mackay, Anne Mackay Cook (William Blanton), James MacFarlane McClure, and William Thomas McClure; two great-grandchildren, Louise Edgington Cook and Mary Margaret Cook, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Barbara Templin and the Visiting Angels of Wheeling for their devoted care and kindness.
Friends will be received on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232- 2732). Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 2 p.m.. at Lawrencefield Parish Church, Table Rock Lane, Wheeling, with the Reverend Cynthia Walter officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
