SUSANNE KEEFER

Susanne W. Keefer completed her life of giving on June 25, 2018.

She was born September 26, 1938, the daughter of the late E. Wayne Williams and E. Margaret Williams of St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Susie graduated from Triadelphia High School in 1956 and then Western College for Women in 1960.

She was the devoted wife of F. Jay Keefer, M.D., and a mother and grandmother who always lived for her family first.

Susie was a gifted, nationally recognized collegiate athlete. She enjoyed ice skating, skiing, and swimming, and was well- known as a racewalker.

As a lifeguard, she taught many to swim. She inspired all of her children to play ice hockey, and served as the registrar for WAHA for many years. She was a board member of Wheeling County Day School and Oglebay Good Zoo, and president of the board of the Children’s Home of Wheeling for five years.

Her love of life was shared daily while visiting with her family, and enhanced by the beauty of flowers, birds, trees and even tiny lichens on her walks through Oglebay Park and the woods.

Susie is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years (F. Jay Keefer), four children, Kimberly and Bill Hicks, Wendy Keefer, Kurtis and Kaysie Keefer, and Holly and John Dwyer, and ten grandchildren, Thomas and Benjamin Hicks, Gunnar and Colton Schultz, Calvin, Jay and Cody Keefer, and Boden, Jocelyn, and Ryken Dwyer). She is also survived by her brothers, Russell and John Williams and their families, and her sisters-in-law, Priscilla Williams, Barbara Keefer, and Becky Keefer and their families. She was predeceased by her brother Charles.

The memory and essence of her life continues through her four children, ten grandchildren, and others with whom she left a strong moral compass to guide them through life’s many adventures, and a lifelong and lasting message “How may I help?”

Our family wishes to thank our gracious friends for their thoughts and prayers, and the kind, compassionate care by Valley Hospice.

There will be no visitations.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Oglebay Foundation or the Children’s Home of Wheeling.
