Mona Jeanne Wise Pyles, 94, of New Martinsville, WV passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2018. She was born on December 29, 1923 in Barnsdall, OK, the daughter of the late Arlie and Madelyn Wise. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Pyles, a son, Jeffrey Bryan Pyles, a grandson, Ryan Shane West, her brother, Jack C. Wise and two nephews, Steve Wise and Keith Wise.

She was a graduate of Magnolia High School, Class of ’42, New York Medical College Nursing School, West Virginia Northern Community College (AA) and West Virginia University,(BA, MS). She worked as a nurse, raised her five children, and then later in life became the college counselor at WVNCC.

She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years and was on The Citizen Scholarship Foundation Board, as well as a member of the Magnolia Band Patrons. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She loved cruising America’s waterways on the Delta Queen, Mississippi Queen, American Queen and Columbia Queen. She was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, mother, and grandmother.

Mona is survived by a son, Bradley J. (Mary) Pyles of Chapmanville, WV, three daughters, Debra L. (Larry) West of New Martinsville, Cathy S. Pyles of North Hollywood, CA, and Vicki J. (Tom) Miles of Chaska, MN. Grandchildren are: Chad (Rebekah) West, Adam (Erika) West, Nicole (A.J.) Nastasi, Nathan (Bridgett) West, Maggie (Shawn) Lawson, Jesse (Laura) Pyles, Jason (Courtney) Pyles, Melinda Pyles, Matthew (Catherine) Miles, Amanda (Mike) Knoll, Conor Pyles, Alexi Pyles, Madulan Pyles, thirteen great grandchildren, and nine step-great grandchildren.

At Mona’s request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date for family and close friends. Memorial contributions can be made to New Martinsville Public Library, West Virginia Northern Community College, First Christian Church, or the Wetzel County Humane Society.
