ELEANOR JOHNSTON

Eleanor Mae (Hosley) Johnston, 89, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Arbors of Fairlawn, Akron, OH.

Eleanor was born July 25, 1929, in Blaine, OH, a daughter of the late Nathanial and Sarah (Cooper) Hosley. She was a retired employee of Youth Services System, Wheeling and a member of Wayman AME Church, Wheeling. After retirement, she assisted with various catering projects and provided child care for a number of years.

She had many hobbies. She enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was an avid sports fan. She loved tennis, football and golf. She also kept up to date on world and political events and had very strong opinions on these topics. She loved reading a variety of medical literature. Her favorite pastime was family gatherings, sharing stories with her grandchildren and chatting with friends.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Zenas Johnston; two brothers, Grady Lee Hosley and Charles Howard; a sister Gussie Elizabeth Hosley.

Eleanor is survived by her seven children, Carl Cooper of Wheeling, Charlotte (Kenneth) Toney of Alliance, OH, Larry (Iola) Johnston of Philadelphia, PA, Royann Johnston of Akron, OH, Alan Johnston of Weirton, WV, Dwayne (Tatjana) Johnston of Wheeling and Brian (Sherisse) Johnston of Twinsburg, OH; 10 grand children; 20 great-grand children; a great-great- grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and a few dear and caring friends.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm, Friday, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling.

Friends will then be received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at noon, Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Wayman AME Church, Wheeling, with the Rev. Marcia Allen officiating.

Interment will follow in Parkview Memorial Gardens, Wheeling.
