Gerald R. “Gerry” Blake, 87, resident of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born on August 15, 1931 in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Glenn and Mary A. Holmes Blake.
Gerry was a retired ticket agent with TWA in Columbus, OH, a Korean War Navy veteran who served on the USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier, and a member and past Deacon at Stone Presbyterian Church.
He graduated from Triadelphia High School, Class of 1949. He was a member of Liberty Lodge 26, AF & AM, the El Tor Grotto; past president of Short Circut; member of OPALS;secretary of the Elm Grove Civics, where he called BINGO; and past president of AARP 824. He was also a member of TWA Retiree’s Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Blake and Charles Blake; a sister, Evelyn Troeger.
Surviving is his wife, Marilyn Ridgely Blake, whom he married in 1956; one son, James Lee Blake (Carol); one daughter, Susan Blake Kogut; three grandsons, Brad McGrath (Amber), Brent Blake and Brian Blake; two brothers, Cletis Blake and Clarence Blake.
Friends will be received on Monday, September 3, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV, 26003, where services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert P. Nagy officiating.
Interment to follow in Short Creek Cemetery.
