THOMAS GRIBBEN

Thomas Joseph Gribben, 81, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at his residence.

Thomas was born on March 17, 1937, in Wheeling, son of the late Thomas Arthur and Marie (Kammer) Gribben.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus- Carroll Council 504. He earned the rank of 4th degree Knight. Previously, he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA, and of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Martinsville, WV. He was an inspector for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, the laboratory supervisor for the Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, OH and Burnside, LA and laboratory technician for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in Cincinnati, OH. He was honored with the H.V. Churchill Award from ASTM International in 1995 for his work in the field of Analytical Chemistry. Thomas graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School, and he earned his B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Philosophy as a member of the first graduating class at Wheeling College.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Michael Gribben, on November 5, 2008.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Rosella H. (Zohn) Gribben of Wheeling; three children, Thomas J. Gribben Jr. of Hilliard, OH, David P. (Pauline) Gribben of Delaware, OH and Lisa R. (Kurt) Weber of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter-in-law, Mindy Gribben of Pickerington, OH; eight grandchildren, John Gribben, Nicholas Gribben, Samantha Weber, Brendan Gribben, Alex Gribben, Cameron Weber, Aidan Gribben and Sophia Weber; brother, Robert (Karen) Gribben of Fairmont, WV; and numerous extended family members.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Wheeling Chapel from 3-7 p.m., with a Knights of Columbus service following the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 1300 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV, at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Kevin Quirk serving as Celebrant.
