PEGGY VARNER

Peggy Ann McKee Varner, passed away from this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

A lifelong resident of Wheeling, she was born on June 17, 1943, to William and Genevieve Butler McKee. She was the youngest of seven children.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Wheeling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Varner, in 1997; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert (Ruth), Joseph (Paula), Richard and William; and a brother-in-law, William Cherry.

Peggy was a homemaker working at various part time jobs over the years. While raising her children, her volunteering included teacher’s aide, reading tutor, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, softball coach and cheering coach.

She was an Honorary Life Member of Ritchie PTA where she served two terms as President and was very active while her children attended there. She was also an Honorary Life Member of the Ohio County Council of PTA’s.

Surviving are two sons, Joe (Janine) Varner, John (Andrea) Varner; three daughters, Julie Varner, Judi (Craig) Meyer, and Joanie (Tim) Keen; her two oldest grandchildren, Brennen (Joy), and Bobby Bradley (whom she raised as her own); eighteen grandchildren, Jamie, Andrew “Buddy” and Josh Varner, Michael and Logan (Rachael) Schmitt, Zane, Chaz, Faith and Elijah Meyer, Tanner and Braeden Keen, Alexandra Barnes, Johnny, Jayda, Jacob “Cub” and Joel Varner, Ciara (Felix) Dight-Riba and Baylie Dight; nine great-grandchildren; Niasha, Ilyanna, Rowan, Kyla, Jeremiah, Raenen, Ellie, JJ and Felix; a sister, Mary Beth Cherry; a brother, Jim (Linda) McKee; a sister-in-law, Tammy McKee Timberlake; many nieces and nephews; Also blessed with these special people that she considered family; Eileen Moore Cieslewski, Robert “Butch”, Johnnie and Raphael Bradley.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 22, 2019, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV, (304-242-2311) and again on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 1470 National Road, Wheeling, WV, with Pastor Darrin Wright officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wheeling Lions Club, 4303 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV, 26003.
