Sex Offenders Can Run But Can’t Hide
Few months seem to go by without at least one grand jury in the Ohio Valley handing down an indictment involving sexual assault. With distressing frequency, the victims are children.
Online sex offender registries in both West Virginia and Ohio help area residents be aware of potential threats in their communities. Often, however, convicted offenders attempt to avoid being listed.
A recent report by the West Virginia State Police makes it clear that is a futile exercise in most cases. During the past three years, state and local police have arrested more than 1,250 offenders for failing to comply with requirements to register.
That is excellent news, for which both local and state law officers throughout West Virginia deserve to be commended. Keep up the good work!
