Continue Probe Into Ohio AMVETS
AMVETS has a longstanding reputation of being a key charitable organization assisting men and women who have served our country in the military. Ohioans donate millions of dollars a year to the organization.
But an investigation by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office alleges some AMVETS units misused more than $10 million in charitable funds. Some AMVETS posts set up “training” programs that were mere shams, DeWine’s office reports.
State AMVETS officials have cooperated in the probe and are instituting reforms, the attorney general’s office emphasized.
Good. Where mere misunderstandings or, perhaps, good intentions gone wrong were involved, reforms are enough.
But if criminal behavior was involved, DeWine’s office should prosecute those involved. Ohioans will not stand for their veterans being cheated.
