Nearing Top of Hill In NCAA Tourney

West Liberty University’s Hilltoppers basketball team already had chalked up a memorable season before Thursday, when they met Winona State in the NCAA Division II tournament quarterfinal game. Then Coach Jim Crutchfield’s squad absolutely demolished the Warriors, with a final score of 110-84.

That sets up a semifinal game today at noon in Louisville, Ky., against Metro State. If the ‘Toppers win, they will play for a national championship next week in Atlanta.

Win, lose or draw, the WLU team has captured the imaginations – and inspired the admiration – of many local fans.

Good luck, then, and good shooting this afternoon to the ‘Toppers – already champs in our book.
