Order FAA to Fund Airport Controllers
So intent on rejecting any cuts in federal spending is President Barack Obama’s administration that it is willing to risk the safety of those using 149 airports, including the Wheeling-Ohio County facility.
Because of Federal Aviation Administration funding cuts, the air traffic control tower here will be closed, airport Manager Tom Tominack has disclosed. Similar action is being taken at 148 other airports, leaving it up to pilots to coordinate takeoffs and landings.
The FAA action could have been avoided. But the White House wants to convince Americans that any small reduction in government spending will be disastrous. Let’s hope that does not prove to be the case.
Members of Congress should order the FAA to reverse itself.
