Celebrate Mountain State’s 150th Birthday

West Virginia’s 150th birthday ought to be celebrated in its birthplace.

That is here, of course. It was during the early days of the Civil War that a determined, courageous, farsighted group of men met here in Wheeling to form a new state. On June 20, 1863, it came into existence formally.

A truly exciting schedule of events has been planned to celebrate the Mountain State’s sesquicentennial. Centered on West Virginia Independence Hall, activities will be fun and educational for those of all ages.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and legislators will be here, joining thousands of others who view our state as almost heaven.

Join us later this week in observing the birth of the state so many of us love, then. West Virginia truly is worth a celebration.
