Some Anti-Gun Rules Simply Crazy

Anti-gun craziness in public schools seems to be increasing. It ought to be upsetting to any reasonable person, not just to those worried about Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

Many West Virginians remember the ludicrous situation in March, when a 14-year-old boy was suspended from school – and arrested – in Logan County. His offense, ironically, was refusing to turn a National Rifle Association “Defend Your Rights” shirt inside out, at a teacher’s order. A few days later, about 100 of his classmates showed up at school wearing the same type of shirt.

It gets crazier. In Calvert County, Md., a kindergarten student was suspended from school for 10 days – after a two-hour interrogation about an orange-tipped, unloaded cap gun he had on a bus.

In Anne Arundel County, Md., a 7-year-old was suspended from school for two days because he nibbled around the edges of his toaster pastry until it vaguely resembled a gun, which he then waved around. Officials refuse to remove the suspension from his record.

What’s common to all these cases? Adults who seem to think harassing children is a great way to battle gun violence. What’s missing? Common sense.
