Relying on Area’s Volunteer Firefighters

Volunteer firefighters’ efforts in putting out blazes at homes and vehicles and occasionally dealing with brush fires are well known to area residents – and very much appreciated.

But the courage and skill they demonstrate in tackling more challenging situations sometimes is overlooked.

A fire at the Blue Racer plant in southern Marshall County was handled quickly and without injuries during the weekend. On Monday, Blue Racer President Rick Moncrief went out of his way to thank those responsible. He cited Marshall County Emergency Management Director Tom Hart, along with law enforcement officers and personnel of several fire departments. “Many of the local firefighters are volunteer firefighters, and we are grateful for their service,” Moncrief said.

Amen to that. Most area residents rely on the volunteers – and it is good to know their dedication and capability knows very few limits.
