Grand Jurors Merit Community Thanks
Fourteen good men and women have ended more than six months of exceedingly difficult work, and deserve to be commended for it.
We refer to members of the special grand jury that investigated the rape of a girl in Steubenville and the aftermath of the crime. As we have reported, grand jurors indicted six people, five of them allegedly involved in covering up facts related to the rape.
No doubt some believe grand jurors should have returned more indictments. But they did their duty, which is to help enforce the law – not to punish repugnant actions that may not be illegal.
Service on any grand or petit jury is difficult, sometimes emotionally and intellectually wrenching. This one may have been especially so. Again, those who served on it deserve the thanks of their community.
