Frigid Cold Calls For Special Care

Temperatures in our area will drop to far below “bitter cold” tonight. Some areas of the Northern Panhandle and East Ohio may see the mercury dip to 13 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service. Those outside at night will experience wind chills of 34 below zero.

That is dangerously cold. Some people in our area simply are not prepared for it.

Ohio Valley residents always look out for our neighbors. With the dangerous cold expected to continue through Tuesday, now is the time to be especially watchful.

If you know of someone who may be in danger from the cold, check in with that person or family.

We know local people do not hesitate to offer aid and assistance when they know it is needed. But that is the key – being aware of when someone we know is in peril.

In your own household, be careful. Some sources of heat simply are not safe indoors. Don’t take risks you may pay for with your life and that of your family. If you have pets, take them inside.

Again, the cold tonight and Tuesday will be worse than most local residents have experienced in years. That calls for special precautions for ourselves and neighborly solicitude for the well-being of others.

Bundle up, then, stay inside unless you absolutely have to go out, and be careful.
