Manchin a Model As SBA Director
A good friend to Northern Panhandle residents is leaving state government. Let’s hope his successor exhibits similar qualities.
Mark Manchin has been executive director of the state School Building Authority since 2006. During his tenure, the SBA has helped school systems throughout the state build new facilities and renovate existing ones.
Every Northern Panhandle county has benefited from SBA help – and from Manchin’s dedication to working with local school officials, sometimes to overcome substantial obstacles.
Manchin is expected to be offered the position of superintendent of schools in Harrison County, W.Va. He has said he will accept.
It will be up to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, with the state Senate’s concurrence, to appoint a successor to Manchin. The governor would do well to select someone with much the same blend of skills, dedication and ability to work with local school officials possessed by Manchin.
