Commenting on Home Rule in Moundsville
If you are a resident or business owner in Moundsville, you may want to make time this evening to attend a special City Council meeting. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building.
Council members already have approved first reading of a measure to apply for inclusion in the state Home Rule program. Second reading of the ordinance will be held tonight.
Potential changes that could occur under Home Rule are a new 0.5-percent city sales tax, some business and occupation tax relief, better efforts on cleaning up dilapidated buildings, reducing the number of licenses required for businesses and giving the municipality more power to collect delinquent fees.
Obviously, virtually everyone in Moundsville would be affected by the changes.
Council members already have provided opportunities for the public to comment on the plan. If you have not taken advantage, tonight is another opportunity to speak out.
