Pats on the Back:

— To the hundreds of sponsors and volunteers who make special events throughout the Ohio Valley, such as those this weekend, possible. Without them, most of the activities – which often raise money for worthy causes – would not be possible.

— To law enforcement officers and agencies responsible for the arrest of a man accused of robbing banks in Wheeling and St.?Clairsville last weekend. He was arrested a day later in Columbus.

— To local men and women who helped raise money for the Wheeling YMCA by stepping out into thin air and rappelling down the side of the Stone Center.

Pats on the Back:

– To all involved in staging the annual Debbie Green Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Leukemia, held Saturday in Wheeling – and especially to Ron Green, who for years has worked tirelessly on the race after establishing it years ago in memory of his sister, a victim of leukemia.

– To the unidentified person who witnessed the theft of copper from a building in Bellaire, then tipped police off and provided information leading to two arrests. “That is how we solve crimes in this town, from the good people in this town who take a lot of pride here in the All-American Town,” commented police Chief Mike Kovalyk.

– To local high schools that stress Advanced Placement classes. The program can provide college credit for high school students. Wheeling Park High School, an AP leader in West Virginia, had 172 students participate in the program last year.
