This Convention Will Be Different
Many West Virginians and East Ohioans no doubt were gratified at what they heard and saw at the Republican National Convention last week. The party’s nominee for president, Donald Trump, made it clear he wants the rational energy policy that makes sense to us. Other speakers and many delegates in the convention hall proclaimed they, too, like coal and natural gas.
This week, Democrats are gathered for their convention in Philadelphia. From them — specifically, from their nominee, Hillary Clinton — an entirely different attitude will be projected.
Clinton and the liberal leaders of her party have cast their lot with radical environmentalists who want to shut down every coal-fired power plant in the nation, despite the fact that will send utility bills soaring for tens of millions of people. And they are turning their backs on the “alternative” they touted just a few years ago, natural gas.
Perhaps they will mention Clinton’s pledge to toss $30 billion in welfare-state crumbs to Appalachian states her energy plan will devastate. Neither she nor her cronies and fat-cat funders understand people who just want to work for a living.
In listening to Clinton and other liberals in Philadelphia, read between the lines of their grandiose promises: Each and every one of them is intended to grow government and limit our choices, our freedom and yes, our safety.
What a difference a week can make.
