Johnson Serves East Ohio Well

East Ohio residents have watched with gratitude as U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio, stuck with them in battling President Barack Obama’s war on coal and affordable electricity. That alone would be reason to keep Johnson in Congress.

But Johnson, who represents Belmont, Jefferson, Monroe, Harrison and 14 other counties, is not a one-trick pony. He understands many other issues concern his constituents, and he has been an effective voice for them in Washington.

First elected to Congress in 2010, Johnson is up for re-election this year. He has a solid record of achievement on which to campaign. His career makes it clear he understands many of the challenges and opportunities facing East Ohio and the nation as a whole.

After a distinguished career of 26 years in the Air Force, Johnson retired as a lieutenant colonel. He knows the obstacles those who served our country must overcome and is determined to support fellow veterans.

He also sees the need for a strong military and, just as important, what needs to be done to rebuild ours.

On a variety of concerns many East Ohioans have, Johnson has been working to represent our area. He believes strongly in Second Amendment rights, helped write a law to battle substance abuse and promotes better infrastructure, including pipelines and export facilities, for natural gas.

Johnson is pro-life, voted in favor of a bill to protect miners’ pensions, wants tax reform and more affordable access to health care.

He understands the Environmental Protection Agency threatens not just our coal and gas industries, and he wants to protect family farmers and other small landowners against the EPA.

One reason Johnson is so attuned to his constituents is that his is a frequent presence in communities throughout the district. Johnson is a congressman for the people, not the Washington crowd.

All those facets of his character and service make it easy for The Intelligencer to endorse Johnson. We recommend strongly that voters keep him in Congress.
