Kasich Is Right About Election

It has been a month since Republican Donald Trump won the presidency, by a convincing Electoral College margin.

The vast majority of Americans, whether they supported Trump, Hillary Clinton or someone else, have accepted that. They are ready to move on, to make the best of things.

A few die-hards — Republicans as well as Democrats — do not see it that way. Some of them support Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s demands for recounts in three states, though there is no chance that will change the outcome of the election.

A tiny number of people want electors from the states to reject their responsibility to vote in the Electoral College as voters in their states did on Nov. 8. Their idea is that if enough electors pledged to Trump refuse to support him, the election could be thrown into the House of Representatives.

That is ridiculous as well as irresponsible.

In Ohio, it has been suggested some electors should vote for Gov. John Kasich instead of Trump, who won the state Nov. 8.

Kasich himself, who was not a supporter of the president-elect, advises Ohio electors to vote for Trump.

“The election is over,” Kasich said. “Now is the time for all of us to come together as Americans.” The Electoral College scheme, he added, “will only serve to further divide our nation, when unity is what we need.”
