Rethink Diplomacy, Rebuild Military
For nearly eight years under President Barack Obama, U.S. defense policy has been guided more by political correctness and a slavish desire to avoid antagonizing other nations, even our sworn enemies, than by reality.
As a result, our armed forces face unnecessarily diverse threats and a diminished ability to cope with them. We should not need today’s observance of Pearl Harbor Day to remind us of the peril of such a position.
President-elect Donald Trump vows to reverse both decline in the military and our irrational diplomacy. Let us hope he, supported by Congress, moves swiftly. Our enemies should not view us as a giant asleep so long that we are easy prey.
