Being Safe With Guns
Most West Virginians and Ohioans who own guns are scrupulous in following safety rules. A few are not, as news stories from both our states illustrated last week:
In Stonewood, W.Va., a first-grader took a handgun to school. Fortunately, no harm resulted.
It was different in Akron, Ohio, where a homeowner shot his daughter when, in the middle of the night, he mistook her for an intruder. She will recover.
Gun ownership seems to becoming more widespread. With it goes responsibility.
Please, if you own a firearm, follow the rules. Don’t let one lapse in judgment be fatal — perhaps to your child.
