Pats on the Back:

∫ To recipients of the Anti-Bullying Fighting for Justice Awards presented by the Bordas & Bordas law firm. This year’s student honorees include Kallee Dowler of Barnesville; Joy Henthorn of Beallsville; Trey Miller of Bishop Donahue; Tierra White of Bridgeport; Jasmine Jasenec of Cameron; William Fox of John Marshall; Amelia Jones and Carleigh West, both of The Linsly School; James Lodi of St. Clairsville; Jeremy Hagilouizou of St. John Central; Sidney Woglemuth of Shadyside; Maiah Miller of Union Local; Hannah Dieffenbaugher of Wheeling Central; and Naomi Clutter and Rhett Schodzinski, both of Wheeling Park.

∫ To Wheeling officials who devised an unusual but striking way of honoring law enforcement officers. They had a blue line painted on the streets outside the Wheeling Police Department. Officers cross it virtually every day.

∫ To the various organizations that remind local residents of the importance of honoring the American flag, often providing the service of destroying old flags appropriately.

∫ To all involved in staging the annual Ohio Valley Mine Rescue Contest, held last week in Moundsville. It allowed members of 21 mine rescue teams to both hone and show off their skills — and that may save lives.
