n To law enforcement resource officers in Ohio County schools, who were honored recently. Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard was cited for ongoing service to the resource officer program. Deputies Sgt. Chuck Kittle and Chad Clatterbuck were given the “Outstanding Community Service Award.” Sheriff’s Department Cpl. John Haglock received the “Distinguished Service Award,” and Wheeling Police Sgt. Gust Kepreos got the “West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services Above and Beyond Award.”

n To Paul “Bud” Billiard of Wellsburg, who has served area students and communities for many years, including 23 as Brooke High School head football coach. On Thursday night, Brooke’s football field was renamed the Paul S. “Bud” Billiard Field.

n To the dozens of people who demonstrated athleticism and more than a little courage in rappeling nearly 100 feet down the front facade of Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack last weekend, to raise money for the Wheeling YWCA.

n To Wheeling Heritage, one of 10 semifinalists for the Great American Main Street Award, in recognition of its work in revitalizing downtown Wheeling.
