Brennan Richly Deserving of Honor

Local in-the-know residents understand that Margaret Brennan has been a distinguished Mountain State resident for many years. On Memorial Day, that was made official.

Brennan, a leading local historian and proponent of preserving valuable old properties, was presented the Distinguished West Virginian award by Randall Reid-Smith, state commissioner of arts, culture and history. The presentation was made during a rededication ceremony for the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Monument, now located at West Virginia Independence Hall in downtown Wheeling. The monument had been at Wheeling Park for many years.

“We could not have done this without Margaret,” Reid-Smith pointed out.

It required three years of effort and the raising of more than $135,000 to move the monument. Brennan spearheaded the project, tirelessly asking community leaders for help with it.

Brennan’s work has accomplished many good things in our community. The honor bestowed upon her is exceedingly well-deserved — and a very small token of gratitude.
