Making Decision Carefully, Openly
For months, St. Clairsville officials have been considering whether to sell the municipal water and sewer systems to a private company. Mayor Terry Pugh has formed a special committee to look into the matter.
It includes city officials, people with scientific expertise — and Bill Brooks. If you have been following our stories about the privatization proposal, you know Brooks has been a vocal critic of it.
This is a situation with very long-term ramifications for St. Clairsville residents. Of course, it ought to be discussed publicly, as Pugh plans. And including Brooks on the panel is reassurance to other critics that their voices will be heard
Pugh’s action indicates selling the water and sewer systems is not a “done deal,” but is a possibility that will be handled objectively and prudently.
